PakMEMS is a Center of Excellence a consortium of three universities: Sir Syed CASE Institute of Technology, Air University and EME College (NUST) to develop the MEMS based open cell library: a national database of reusable designs of MEMS developed by Pakistani universities, funded by Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. This publicly accessed library of MEMS devices designed for specific applications in the various areas of robotics, biomedical, intertial sensors, pharmaceutical and communication, etc to promote Education and Research activities in Microchip design (Photonics, VLSI, ASIC, MEMS and allied fields), in Pakistan and promote the strength of Pakistani researchers and Scientists in these areas at international level. The main goal of this open cell library is to increase design and testing capabilities in terms of human resource development for our local industry and international community here.

PakMEMS is a Center of Excellence a consortium of three universities: Sir Syed CASE Institute of Technology, Air University and EME College (NUST) to develop the MEMS based open cell library: a national database of reusable designs of MEMS developed by Pakistani universities. This Center is funded by Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan under National Center of Robotics and Automation (NCRA). The National Center of Robotics and Automation is a consortia of 11 labs over 13 universities of Pakistan. The center will serve as a leading technological hub within the domain of Robotics and Automation. We also need to develop a strong capability of Pakistani microchip research though top-ranking research Publications and patents. Under the collective research collaborations, we will expand our open-source library of MEMS devices that are either designed or fabricated under the various research programs of Pakistani universities in order to showcase the strengths and capabilities of Pakistani designers to the world.

  1. Enable applied research in Pakistani universities and provide them access to state-of-the-art design tools, equipments and enabling technologies. This will bring more innovation thus keepingthese universities competitive to international universities and global market.

  2. Open Source Design Library will enable the Pakistani researchers to be in competitive edge with other international users thus attracting more research collaboration with foreign universities and/or develop commercial partnerships with international companies.

  3. The successful designs displayed in Open Source Design Library help other universities to re-use these devices’ designs in their research work to develop larger systems. This will accelerate the chip development work in these universities while then focusing on new innovative systems. This places Pakistan at strong position in International Market attracting multinational companies to invest in the startups in Pakistan.

  4. Publications in international journals and conferences to promote international level. This will enhance the credibility of Pakistani Universities in the microchip design, prototyping and testing.

  5. Indigenous development of MEMS sensors and actuators for the possible applications in the area of robotics and automation.

  6. Establishment of state of the art design and test facility for the development of MEMS devices in Pakistan.

  7. The highly skilled human resources (Engineers, researchers, scientists, policy makers) developed will result in multiple startup companies in Pakistan that will provide Microsystems design services mainly in VLSI, MEMS and Microelectronics to Pakistani Universities, Organizations and international companies generating commercialization activities.

  8. Attract highly qualified personals from abroad to induct them in various universities and companies in Pakistan.
