The Electrical Engineering Program at SS CASE IT has an exceptional blend of theoretical research and extensive practical training to mold students into skillful professionals ready to take up real world challenges in the industry. Our Electrical Engineering Program is the first Electrical Engineering Program in Pakistan to receive Level 2 Accreditation from Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) under the new OBE Accreditation System. PEC also has the signatory status for the Washington Accord. Washington Accord is an international agreement among bodies responsible for reciprocal accreditation of engineering degree programs. Among the signatories are Australia, Canada, Japan, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, UK and USA. Graduates of our BSEE Program can directly apply for jobs in these countries.

Specialization in Computer Engineering

The Computer engineering is a blend of Electrical/Electronic Engineering and Computer Science. They combine best of both worlds to design systems involving microprocessors and computers controlling all kind of machinery starting from home appliances to cars to airplanes. Computer engineering, however, is more than a blend of these two fields.

Cybersecurity & Computer Networks

Cyber security is a new evolving field with an increased demand due to adaptation of cloud technologies and operation of online business. It is estimated that currently 4.07 million professional are required in the field of cyber security [].

CASE has established a Deep Packet Inspection lab (worth Rs. 77 million) under National Center for Cyber Security. The student specializing in the field of Cybersecurity and computer Networks has an opportunity to work in DPI lab during their graduation.

Artificial and Machine Intelligence applied to field of Robotics

Decentralized Communications for Swarm Robotics Lab: The swarm robotics lab with funding of 79 million PKR under National Center for Robotics and Automation from Higher Commission of Pakistan (HEC) aims to establish a scaling solution by providing an application agnostic swarm intelligence platform. The project is composed of three labs, i.e., Swarm Intelligence Lab, Computer Vision and AI Lab and Decentralized Communications Lab. The most important aspect of this lab would be to generate a generic scaling solution that would work for any kind of application that is able to benefit from a multi‐agent robotic system in an optimal way. Such an undertaking will be achieved using the state‐of‐the‐art swarm intelligence algorithms. Key Application areas are: Disaster Management, Water Quality Monitoring and Intelligent Video Surveillance.

Embedded Systems employed in Internet of Things and Biomedical devices

Currently the proposals for funding are in process. Once established, we will be able to further our work already being carried out in the field of biomedical devices and Internet of Things to national and international levels.

So far here at SS-CASE-IT we have developed an ECG machine (currently in commercialization phase) which can readily be integrated into the Tele-medicine and Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) developed in collaboration with our industrial arm CARE (PVT) LTD.

Career Opportunities for Computer Engineers

Computer engineering graduates typically have some of the highest starting salaries in engineering. Computer engineers have the option of moving into hardware or software positions, or blending the two.

Typical industries hiring computer engineers, include financial services, computer manufacturers, chemical companies, defense contractors, consulting, transportation, manufacturing, and consumer goods. Computer engineers are equally successful in large multinational firms and small startups.

Specialization in Electrical Power Engineering

Electrical engineers who specialize in energy and power are responsible for determining how to make electrical power and energy systems efficient, effective and environmentally responsible. Concerned with the generation, transmission, distribution, and utilization of electric power, energy and power engineers can work with devices, processes, and analysis, as well as the design of systems, technologies, and infrastructure. They also deal with Hybrid and electric cars, electronic motor controllers, computer power supplies, and backup power units are common applications of power electronics where the electrical energy is utilized.

Wind turbines, solar panels, hydropower plants, and other renewable energy sources are an increasingly common sight in Pakistan. These renewable sources are expected to provide 50% of global power in the next few decades. New hydropower projects like Diamer Basha, Mohmand, Bunji, KeyalKhwar, Dasu, KurramTangi are being planned in Pakistan. The development and integration of these renewable energy sources are producing broad challenges and opportunities. The fast pace of change will continue to challenge engineers in this field resulting in tremendous global demand for power and energy engineers. These new projects along with the proposed privatization of several exiting power plants and distribution companies in Pakistan in the future will create a flood gate of new opportunities in the electric power area.

Potential employers for graduates with an interest in this area include operators and builders of large power systems, such as electric utilities and large engineering consulting firms; manufacturers of power equipment, including wind turbines, motors, and power supplies; manufacturers and users of power semiconductors and other power electronics equipment including solar photovoltaic systems; manufacturers and users of robots, electronic controls, and electric/hybrid vehicles; and industries which are large electricity consumers, such as the metals industry, automobile industry, oil industry, data industry, and others. These major industries dominate the global economy.

Courses in the Power and Energy Systems area cover the analysis concepts and devices of electromechanics, large electric power and energy systems, magnetic and electric energy conversion and the application of electronic devices at high power levels.

Specialization in Electronic Engineering

Micro/Nanosystems technology has played a vital enabling role in overall technological change because it has made possible the manufacturing of highly complex systems that are typically powerful, efficient, small, and inexpensive. Semiconductor based Integrated circuits (ICs) are the core of modern electronics. Other technologies related through derived semiconductor manufacturing processes, such as Microelectronics, MEMS (Microelectromechanical Systems), Microfluidics, Photonics, ASICs, VLSI are now reaching the point of being able to contribute in the same way.

Scope of Micro/Nanosystems Technology

Science and technology on micro and nanoscales have been attracting great attention globally. Micro and Nanosystems provides a very fast and best forum for experimental and theoretical studies of fundamental and interdisciplinary research on micro and nanoscales. The resulting systems typically incorporate microelectronic elements integrated with these technologies. The most powerful way to expand the scope of microelectronics is to influence its development in conjunction with a range of new miniaturized technologies within a multidisciplinary framework, both in terms of the actual technologies used, and their applications in health care, smart phones, biotechnology, biomedical, energy, defense, driver-less-cars, aerospace, ICT (Information & Communication Technologies).

Aims and Objectives of the Department

Due to the lack of highly qualified manpower in these areas, SS-CASE-IT has aggressively invested in making microelectronics specialty under BS Electrical Engineering program through strong R&D background to generate business through fabless design houses, freelancing and startups and by attracting global Fabless design companies to open their design offices in Pakistan. This specialty focuses on FPGA based System, ASIC design, Analog and Digital Chip design, MEMS based Gyroscopes & Accelerometers for driver-less-cars, System-On-Chip through hands on training on state-of-the-art software. We create expertise among the students to develop systems using the electronic chip and the expertise to manufacture such Micro and Nano level chips.

Research & Development

MEMS Sensor Design and Testing Lab under National Center of Robotics and Automation [Rs 75 Million from HEC]
The lab will develop skilled manpower through scientific research to produce world class MEMS experts having expertise in design and testing to produce world class R&D in MEMS and initiate commercial activities in this area in Pakistan. Moreover, it will support the local needs of the academic institutions, strategic organizations especially the research groups working in the field of robotics and automation. Specialization in Telecommunications Engineering

The BS in Electrical (Telecommunication) Engineering program prepares students for key roles in research, development and design positions that require the use of skillful and innovative solutions to complex engineering problems. Telecom Engineers will know the principles and practice of telecommunications and related computer technologies. They will understand how information of all kinds is represented, transmitted and received, in both analog and digital forms, over a variety of links and networks using radio and/or metallic or optical transmission lines; including point-to-point, switched, routed, and broadcast telecommunication systems; integrated multimedia voice, data, image, and television networks; and local and wide area communication networks.
