News & Events @ CASE
"Dr. Sajid has been appointed as Director Strategic Planning. In this role, he will work with the trustees and the president to establish the vision and mission of CASE and lead the Institution in its deployment.
Under Dr. Sajid's leadership (being the founder of Engineering Management Department, and the Chairman) the department grew (in terms of student enrollment and attendance) exponentially. More than 100 students received their MEM degrees during the convocation held in June 2007. In the past, students had approached Dr. Sajid for various issues. However, going forward, Dr. Sajid will be very busy with his new critical role. The EM department is now handled by Prof. Saeed Kazmi as acting Chairman. All students are advised to direct their issues/inquiries (phone or email) to Students Affairs or EM department. Dr. Sajid will no longer be entertaining such matters."

July 2006: French Embassy Officials Visited CASE.
On July 10, 2006, the officials from the french embassy, including the Counselor for Scientific and Technical Cooperation, and the Scientific and Cultural Attache visited CASE. They met the CASE team and discussed with them various possibilities of collaboration between CASE and french higher education institutes. They appreciated the already signed MoU between University of Lille, France and CASE. They assured full support from the french embassy in Islamabad for any initiative to further pursue collaboration with french organizations. At the end, they took a round of the campus and were shown the academic and research facilities at CASE.

Hardware function generator support in a DSP

United States Patent 7,031,992 Khan , et al. April 18, 2006
Abstract: The present invention relates to digital signal processors with an integrated module configured to compute a Coordinate Rotation Digital Computer (CORDIC) in a pipeline. The pipelined module can advantageously complete computation of one CORDIC computation for each clock pulse applied to the CORDIC module, thereby providing a CORDIC computation for each clock pulse. One embodiment advantageously computes a first portion of a computation with a lookup table and a second portion in accordance with a CORDIC algorithm. Advantageously, data in a CORDIC pipeline is automatically advanced in response to read instructions and can be automatically advanced from the beginning of the pipeline to the end of the pipeline to reinitialize the pipeline. This allows information to be retrieved from the CORDIC pipeline with relatively little overhead. The automatic starting and stopping of the CORDIC pipeline advantageously allows the retrieval of computations from efficient pipeline architectures on an as-needed basis.

Programmable and multiplierless Viterbi accelerator

United States Patent 6,883,021 Ahmed , et al. April 19, 2005
Abstract: The invention is related to methods and apparatus that decode convolutionally encoded data, including trellis-coded modulation (TCM) systems. One embodiment of the invention shares a memory device with a main processor, such as a microprocessor or a DSP, and advantageously relieves the main processor of the relatively time-consuming task of decoding the convolutionally encoded data. This frees up the main processor to execute other tasks. One embodiment of the invention includes a micro-coded state machine that can be programmed to control the decoding of the convolutional codes.
