Distance Learning Program

The Distance Learning (DL) program is for those who cannot attend classes on CASE campus. The centerpiece of the program is the provision of digitally recorded lectures, which, in the form of Video CDs, are mailed to DL students. These CDs provide the next best thing from actually being present in the lecture, allowing DL students to appreciate the live questions and answers and classroom discussions. The video screen consists of the topic, lecture contents, and lecture slides. For most classes, students also have access to an on-line forum, where their queries are answered and assignments are submitted through e-mail.

The students in the DL program have to meet all the degree requirements of on-campus students. Examinations are conducted at remote locations under the supervision of examiners provided by CASE. Students switching from on-campus to DL status will be charged DL charges.

Graduate(Masters) and Post Graduate(Doctorial) program in distance learning is for those who cannot attend classes in CASE premises. The main objectives of the distance learning are to provide facilities to the distant professionals for their educational uplift, to make provision for research and for the advancement and dissemination of knowledge. Most of the lectures at CASE are video taped on CDs/DVDs. These videos are made available to the DLs. At CASE, the multimedia section supports this program. the DLs experience very close to the actual class room experience. The video screen consists of the topic, lecture contents, and lecture slides. It's quite simple to move directly to any lecture content by moving through slides. The distance learning students have to meet all the degree requirements of on-campus students. Examinations are conducted at CASE-designated remote locations under supervision. Students have access to an on-line forum, where their queries are answered. They submit their assignments through e-mail.

For Graduate(Masters) Students
All students (including DLs) are required to make class project presentations on campus, on a date specified by their instructors. Students are advised to discuss on-campus attendance requirements (if any) by the instructors before enrolling in a course.

For Post Graduate(Doctorial) Students
DL students have to fulfill the residency requirement of spending at least two semesters on campus. They are advised to consult their supervisor for any additional residency if required by the supervisor.

Distance Learning Challenges

The Distance Learning program presents unique challenges, especially in terms of a communications barrier. These challenges are by no means insurmountable, and can easily be overcome by making a targeted effort to effectively communicate through the internet with the instructors and the teaching assistant. It goes without saying that students must keep their contact information (email address, phone numbers, etc.) current, and apprise their teachers and the administration of any changes.

At times due to circumstances beyond our control lecture CDs may be delayed, in which case the student should contact CASE and inquire as to the reason. However CASE cannot be responsible for delays in the delivery of lecture CDs caused by factors beyond our control (such as delays caused by the Courier, Post Office, or customs regulations).

The above are just some examples of the unique challenges DLs may face with this program. However the benefits far outweigh the costs for students who otherwise would be unable to study at CASE. In order to fully understand the challenges involved, prospective students are encouraged to consult the Student Affairs office and the specific program managers before enrolling in the program.
